What IS biblical womanhood??

A sketch by Dan Andreason
concerning Ruth (Ruth 2:15,16)

One of my favorite blogs, rachelheldevans.com has really got me thinking.

As a girl who was raised in the church from birth, I have been taught about "Biblical Womanhood."

But what is that exactly?

I've sat through countless classes taught on the Proverbs 31 woman, and really had it pounded into my head, that the bible is very clear on women's roles in the home and in the church.  I laugh thinking about it, because when I was about college age and doing a missionary apprenticeship, all the ladies were subjected to a "ladies chapel" every once in a while and all of us younger girls would just cringe at the thought of it and lovingly referred to it as "chick chapel."  It was in those "chick chapels" that the rules of biblical womanhood were ingrained in us as much as possible.

Rachel's quote on facebook the other day really set the wheels in my head turning. She said, "Been researching the Proverbs 31 woman lately: Leave it to evangelicals to turn a poem into a job description."

HA! I literally laughed out loud, and then automatically thought of chick chapel.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I am a huge proponent for being a Godly woman, but I can't help but wonder if the scriptures have been twisted a little too much in this area. There have been a lot of lessons taught on various aspects of this subject, but how much is truth from the bible and how much is opinion?

I would love to discuss this and hear from others (not just women (-:) on this..does anyone else out there have the same doubts? What have you found in your studies?  Just Curious.

Fun Friday

Ok, I want to start something that I'm going to call "Fun Friday." I thought this would be the time to post a funny video, or a movie review, or just whatever we would deem, "fun."

Today, I want to share a couple videos that I first saw a couple years ago.  Although, I need to post a little disclaimer: There might be some who may think this is making fun of Jesus.  But, I don't feel that way.  I think it is poking fun at some of our own misconceptions of Jesus.  I love that they are hilarious, but also might make us rethink some stuff.  Here you go.....

Welcome to the Hood.....Sisterhood, that is!

I have to admit, I am intimidated by the blog world! I've always kept a journal but the thought of having journal entries on the world wide web is, well... Intimidating. Lucky for me, one of my most comfortable topics is my sister, Mandy. Mandy and I are 5 years apart ( you can guess which one is older. Ok, I'll give you one hint.... It's not me. Oh shoot! Did I give it away? Sorry, Mandy :) ) Anyway, when we were kids we shared a tiny little room in each of the parsonages that we lived in. (Yes, we are PKs. Please spare us of all of the "PK's are the worst of all" stories) We even shared a little full sized bed for the first several years of our life. We have laughed, fought, cried, yelled, shared, united, sat in silence, and loved so deeply. She is my best friend. She is wise, lovely, fun, creative, so fashion savvy, and beautiful. She is the girl all the younger sisters dream of having for a big sister.

She is MY big sister.

Even when we don't agree, her opinion is so important to me.
I hope you can come to this blog and if you have a sister with whom you get along with I hope you will feel even closer to her, and if you have a sister that you don't get along with, my prayer is that you will find value in her...here. If you once had a sister and for some reason she isn't around anymore I pray this blog will bring up sweet memories of her. If you have never had a sister, and have always wanted one, my prayer for you is that you read this blog and feel the spirit of sisterhood.

As we discuss hot topics of love, faith, fashion, food, and family. I know the road from K.C. to Tulsa will seem a little shorter. May it also bring you and your sister closer, where ever she may be.

Blogging with My Sister.

That's right, I am doing another blog.

But with my sister!

Misty and I talk almost every day. We are both very passionate about various things(God being at the top of the list!) and talk about everything.  About a month ago we were having a discussion about God and we did not agree on whatever the topic was.  I love that I have her to bounce things off of and even though we may not always agree, there is forever an unconditional love and respect for each other that allows us to have those discussions without getting offended or mad at each other. And what I found even more interesting is that we were raised in the same house, taught the same thing about God, and have a very similar faith, yet we had almost opposite views on this topic we were discussing.  When I was thinking about it later I came up with this idea for a blog.

It's really kind of an experiment, because I'm not really sure how it will go.  I'm thinking we can each post whatever is on our mind at the time, and then hopefully, it will spark a discussion that our readers will chime in on.  Topics might range from God, to marriage, to a movie one of us saw, to something crazy one of our kids did that day(Misty has a lot of those stories! haha!). So, just bare with us as we hopefully have some fun with this.
